Claude is good at talking about food and has no recipes of its own. ask.recipes is a connector that gives it some: a searchable collection with ratings, times, nutrition and a source link on every one. Connect it once and dinner becomes a sentence.
Connecting takes two minutes. Everything on this page is free.
Connect
In Claude (web, desktop or mobile) open Settings → Customize → Connectors → Add → Add custom connector. Name it ask.recipes, paste https://mcp.ask.recipes/mcp as the URL, press Continue.
Start a conversation. Open the tools menu under the message box and switch ask.recipes on. It stays on for that chat.
Ask for dinner. The first call opens a sign-in page: enter your email, type the 6-digit code we send, accept the terms, back to Claude. No password. The newsletter is opt-in. The account exists so your saved recipes stay yours.
Claude may ask once per chat before it runs a tool. Say yes, or allow ask.recipes for the whole conversation. Full tool reference in the docs.
Three asks
Real exchanges from 24 October 2026 against the live server. The wording of Claude's replies varies; the recipes, ratings and nutrition are as served.
You"A high-protein dinner under 500 calories. Thirty minutes, something people actually rate well."
Claude
Three fit, all rated 5.0.
Chicken Lazone25 min · 5.0 ×697 · 484 kcal · 51 g proteinChicken breast in a butter and cream pan sauce, chili and garlic powder in the rub.
Chicken Parmesan23 min · 5.0 ×491 · 454 kcal · 36 g protein
Thai-Style Grilled Chicken Thighs25 min · 5.0 ×183 · 327 kcal · 42 g proteinThe lightest of the three. The calories come from the chicken, not from cream or cheese.
Want one in full?
You"The Thai one."
Claude
One catch before you start: the clock says 25 minutes, but the chicken wants at least an hour in the marinade. Mix it at lunch, grill at dinner.
Saved. It is in your list under its own name; ask for "the Thai chicken I saved" next time and I will pull it up.

You"Oats, milk, eggs and a punnet of berries. Breakfast?"
Claude
Nothing well-rated uses all four, so the berries go on top. Three that use three of them:
Delicious Oatmeal16 min · 5.0 ×24 · 5 ingredientsYou have most of them already.
Oat Pancakes, wheat-free25 min · 4.5 ×58 · 7 ingredients
Baked Oatmeal, Crème Brûlée Style60 min · 5.0 ×34If this is a weekend.
It also matched Gourmet Dog Biscuits, 5.0 from 71 people. I left those out.
You"Pancakes. What am I missing?"
Claude
Baking powder, cinnamon, vanilla and a pinch of salt. Everything else is on your counter. 156 kcal for the whole batch of eight small pancakes as the source counts it, so nutrition here is per batch, not per serving.

You"Vegetarian pasta, thirty minutes, well rated."
Claude
The top hit is a method, not a dish: Perfect Pasta With No Watching and No Sweating, 5.0 from 164 people, how to boil pasta without standing over it. The dishes:
Pasta with Mushroom Garlic Sauce25 min · 5.0 ×103 · 671 kcal
Aglio e Olio20 min · 5.0 ×88
Angel Hair Pasta in Garlic Sauce20 min · 5.0 ×76 · 400 kcalThe lightest.
Garlic in all three. Say so if that is a problem and I will search again without it.
Claude maps plain words to filters: "thirty minutes" becomes a time limit, "well rated" a minimum number of ratings, "under 500 calories" a per-serving cap. Say the limit and it is applied; leave it out and nothing is cut.
Saving and your cookbook
Everything you save sits in one list tied to your email, so it is the same list in Claude on your phone, on your laptop and in Claude Code. Ask for it in words.
"Save it." After any recipe. "What did I save last week?" lists them back.
"Keep this family recipe: ..." Dictate it, paste it, or send a photo of the card. Claude reads it and stores it as yours, private. "Add the recipe on this page: <url>" does the same from a web page.
"Give me a link to send my sister the lasagna I uploaded." An unlisted page, readable without an account, that imports into most recipe and nutrition apps.
"Bought rice, eggs and two chickens." Claude keeps a pantry for you. Later: "What can I make with what I have?"
"Send it to my Thermomix." With a Cookidoo account linked, any recipe lands in your Cookidoo as a private created recipe with time, temperature and speed on each step. See docs.
Crawled recipes stay with their source: Claude gives you the link rather than a copy to share. Your own uploads are yours to send around.
